More Superhero Capes

Last Christmas I made my nephew a personalized superhero cape.  The little guy brought along his cape when he went on vacation with his parents, during which they visited Nick’s cousins.  Soon thereafter Nick’s cousin asked me if I would make her two kids capes and of course I said yes.  Every kid deserves their own superhero cape!

Shamefully, this all happened in April.  Yes, April—5 entire months ago.  I’ve had the fabric since May, but with all of the planning and last minute sewing for our road trip, the capes kept getting pushed down on my to-do list.  I really tried to get them done before we left, but things happened (like when I sewed my finger) and I just didn’t get to them.  I vowed to not do a single craft when I got home until they were finished, and I stuck to my word!

I drafted the patterns for the capes using the same pattern from The Long Thread.  I added a few inches to one of them because my nephew’s cape was a bit snug on one of the kids.  One of the kids is a Lightning McQueen fan, so I stuck with the lightning bolt for one.  The other kid is a Minnie Mouse fan, so I decided to make mouse ears and a Minnie bow around her initial.  I think they came out pretty darn cute!  I’m especially pleased with the Minnie cape.  I was initially worried because the fabric that I used for the bow was a bit stiff, but it actually turned out to be a good thing because it holds the bow shape so nicely.

Superhero Capes

I am now officially caught up with sewing projects for other people.  Oh, except for the gifts that I have in mind for some special occasions....

  3. Thanks guys! They really are pretty quick and easy to put together. My sister asked if I would make one for her nephew for Christmas, so it looks like I'll be making another!
